DURHAM BULLS GAME OUTING

Many thanks to all who came out on a very HOT Sunday afternoon to enjoy a time of fellowship and baseball at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.  We stayed shaded and hydrated, and had a great time.

DISCUSSION WITH GRACE JI-SUN KIM

The Racial Equity Group will be meeting on  August 7 over Zoom at 7:30PM . We will continue our discussion of Grace Ji-Sun Kim's book  When God Became White: Dismantling Whiteness for a More Just Christianity.  All are welcome, and you do not need to have read the book to join the discussion.

CAMPUS PARKING – NEW PASSES

The new Duke Campus Parking year runs from  August 16, 2025 through August 15, 2026 . For those who are on campus  only on Sunday mornings,  parking passes are available that permit parking in the Bryan Center garage on  Sundays  between  6:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.  (Please note, this does not include the metered parking spaces outside the garage). The parking pass, which is the size and shape of a business card, has an image which can be scanned at the parking entrance and exit. 2025-2026 passes are not yet available. Please watch the eNews for an update on when you can pick them up at the Chapel Visitor’s Desk. If you have a 2024-2025 pass, it should continue to work through mid-August.

If you would like a pass that works  after 5pm on weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday , you can request or renew a night permit online:

After-Hours/Night Permit Update:

·  Go to this link:  https://duke.t2hosted.com/Account/Portal

·  Scroll down. Then, click on GET PERMITS

·  Log into your account, or create a new one if you do not have one already. Proceed with instructions to obtain the permit, which is available for a $5.15 administration/credit card fee, payable online.

A CELEBRATION IN GRATITUDE FOR PASTOR LYNN HOLMES

The Fellowship Committee is hosting a party for Lynn Holmes on  Sunday, August 17  after worship in the Chapel Lounge located in the lower level of the Chapel in order to give the Congregation a chance to say thank you. Ice cream with all the toppings will be served. Why so soon after our Sundaes on Sunday event? Pastor Lynn arrived to last month’s event after all the ice cream had been eaten, and she was disappointed to miss it. We will make sure she gets a big bowl and an extra scoop this time. Cards will be available to write thank you notes to her. Please join us as we celebrate all the work she has done during this liminal time- so much so she has earned the nickname Liminal Lynn! All are welcome!

HELP FOR LEROY MCRAE

Beloved long-time Congregation member Leroy McRae lost his home to flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal earlier this month. Leroy joined the Congregation in 1988, and served as an usher for many years. Leroy is currently staying with his daughter, and the Congregation has already provided some initial financial support. If you would like to support Leroy in this time of great need, please click  here  and select "2025 Leroy McRae Fund" from the dropdown menu to donate. Please note that because these consolidated gifts will be given directly in support of Leroy, they are not tax deductible.

As a result,  access to PG4 (Bryan Center Parking Deck) will only be available via Science Drive , specifically at the intersection of  Science Drive and Cameron Blvd .

While the road will be closed to vehicles,  walkways will remain open and accessible . Additionally, FMD has coordinated with mapping services such as  Google Maps , so the detour and closure information should be visible in navigation apps to assist with travel.
