The Congregation at Duke University Chapel

Mission

One of our goals as a congregation is to deepen our connections with our neighbors - both neighbors who are nearby in Durham and those who live in distant lands. We strive to pair financial support with hands-on participation to build true partnerships in mission.  Partnership in mission allows for mutual blessings. Specifically, our mission work takes three forms:

  • Direct Local Service
  • Financial Support to Local Agencies
  • Financial Support to International Agencies

Mission and Outreach Committee

The Mission and Outreach Committee coordinates the mission and service activities of the Congregation. This group of volunteers typically meets on the first Sunday of the month, immediately after worship. With a desire to connect more deeply with our neighbors, they plan mission giving, service projects, and on behalf of the Congregation, they make grants to local agencies.

"Then the righteous will answer him, "'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?' And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.'" (Matthew 25:37-40)
