The Congregation at Duke University Chapel

November 6, 2018

Dear Friends in Christ,

We ask you to consider the value of the Congregation at Duke University Chapel, both to you and to our community. What our membership and staff do for all our education, fellowship and outreach ministries cannot be done by individuals alone but only as a church body, a covenant community.

“In a Christian community, everything depends upon whether each individual is an indispensable link in a chain. Only when the smallest link is securely interlocked is the chain unbreakable.” Dietrich Bonheoffer

What we give to the church is not simply passed on but transformed through our common faith in God and the desire to embody the example and praise of Jesus Christ in all our works. The strength we gain from our chain from God allows us to carry that strength into the world.

We are linked together in Jesus Christ, and empowered by God to reach out to others. We are strongest when each person is connected to God and each other.

Our 2019 goal is to increase the number of givers. In 2018 51% of our member households gave financially. Please join the Congregation Council, staff and our committee in becoming Sustainers by returning the enclosed card which is also available on our web site: http://congregation.chapel.duke.edu/giving .  Commitments made by sustainers increase the confidence of the Congregation leadership team to grow our ministries and our impact as a church community. We ask that Sustainer cards be returned by November 30th.

Thank you for your financial support of the Congregation.

With gratitude,

Stewardship and Finance Committee
