Interior Movements and Holy Desires: Discerning What is Mine To Do

photo of M.G. McCoyAdults and youth are invited to explore spiritual gifts; participants will gain a greater understanding of their own gifts and a deeper appreciation of their neighbor’s gifts.

Christian spirituality often looks upon desires as suspicious, leading us to sinful actions. Ignatian spirituality takes the opposite approach, teaching us that God’s will can, with proper discernment, be discovered within our great desires. At their very heart, our deepest desires are God’s desires for us. Our task is to learn to order our desires properly, because desire is a primary way that God leads us to discover who we are and what we are meant to do.

The retreat, led by Ms. Mary Grace McCoy, a spiritual director and co-founder of The Listening Place, will be held at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 3011 Academy Rd, Durham on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The $10 participation fee will cover the cost of a catered lunch. Please email the Congregation office or call 919-684-3917 to RSVP by Monday, February 5.
